About Us

Restoration Housing is fostering a strong, safe, and dignified community—one house at a time.

Our Story

Roanoke has a rich, storied past—the streets of our Historic Districts are lined with timeless buildings. Though the passage of time has left many of these structures abandoned, forgotten, and in disrepair, we see them for what they really are: opportunities for a new beginning.

At Restoration Housing, we believe that all people deserve to live in safe, strong communities with access to dignified housing. Since 2014, we’ve been focused on preserving neglected historic structures, rehabilitating them to their former splendor, and converting them into safe, affordable rental properties for low-income individuals and families.

By restoring these buildings and opening their doors to those in need, we hope to strengthen our community and preserve the history and integrity of our area—for now and for generations to come.

Our Vision

Our community-based, nonprofit organization is dedicated to cultivating strong, healthy communities that are safe, affordable, and dignified.

Through the development, rehabilitation, and stewardship of affordable rental properties, we strive to benefit under-resourced communities and promote:

We believe that all people deserve to live in comfortable and well-maintained environments

From our projects and business conduct to our environmental awareness, we aim for excellence in all of our outcomes

We encourage an appreciation for the history and integrity of a neighborhood and its community, and all of our work reflects our desire for better social and cultural environments
