ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Restoration Housing will celebrate the completion of Trinity Commons, an affordable senior housing project in a historic church building, with a community event Wednesday.
The organization invites the public to Trinity Unveiled: A Community Housewarming & Documentary Screening at 305 Mountain Avenue SW in Old Southwest from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The free event includes a ribbon cutting ceremony, self-guided tours and a documentary screening. Registration is requested at this link.
Trinity Commons converted the former Trinity United Methodist Church into 15 affordable rental apartments for seniors age 55 and older.
Historic building preservation
The church was originally constructed in 1903 and served the Old Southwest neighborhood for more than a century.
In 2023, Restoration Housing became the steward of the building from Trinity’s former congregation.
The 1922 Sunday School Annex was transformed into the apartments. The units serve seniors earning 0% to 80% of the Area Median Income, including those transitioning out of homelessness.
Each one-bedroom unit includes a full kitchen, four-piece bathroom and living space.
Wednesday’s event schedule includes a welcome and ribbon cutting ceremony from 4:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., self-guided tours from 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and a documentary screening of “No Place to Grow Old” with community conversation from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
