In 2023, Restoration Housing formed a partnership with Carilion Clinic and Anderson Treatment to reestablish the services formerly provided by Bethany Hall to treat pregnant and postpartum women with substance use disorder and their infants. Restoration Housing secured 1729 Patterson Avenue for this purpose in early 2024 through an acquisition grant provided by Aetna Better Health of Virginia. Although the house was in relatively good condition, a complete renovation was needed to bring it up to code for this type of use. Completed in early 2025, the property is affordably leased to the newly established Twelve Foundation.

Restoration Housing invested $395,000 into 930 Stewart Avenue, thanks in large part to a public and private partnership. Funding from the City of Roanoke, Carter Bank and Trust, the Roanoke Valley – Alleghany Regional Commission and Historic Tax Credit syndication account for a large portion of construction funding along with other local foundations and donor support. These funding sources subsidized all of the construction costs, allowing Restoration Housing to keep rents affordable for a low-income family.
This 1919 Colonial Revival was built for James McNelis and his siblings Cornelius and Annie. It remained in the family until 1973 when it was donated to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1264.
Completed in Spring 2025, Restoration Housing handed the keys to our partners to oversee the day to day operations of the property. With the ability to house up to 16 women undergoing treatment for substance use disorder and 16 babies, the home now boasts new mechanicals, plumbing, kitchen, bathrooms, ADA-compliant addition, and fire suppression system as well as authentically restored historic features.
