ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – There’s a new treatment center in Roanoke aimed at helping mothers who are fighting drug addiction. Organizers at The Grove on Patterson say they’re hoping to fill the void left behind when Bethany Hall closed two years ago, calling this facility an important step to address southwest Virginia’s maternal health challenges, while also aiming to keep families together.

Women admitted at The Grove will stay between 120 days and 180 days and receive around the clock care.

Even the name, The Grove, holds a special meaning. Every room inside the facility is named after trees- to emphasize that it’ll be filled with growth. To commemorate that, organizers planted a cherry tree, a symbol of the power the community has, to foster healing.

“It’s my blessing and my gift for people to be able to say, how did you do it?” said Stacy Jones, a former resident at Bethany Hall, “And I say, because the strong women beside me lifted me up when I couldn’t do it myself. And so when people say, ‘I don’t think I can do it, I’m not strong enough.’ I want you to always remember that if you survive active addiction, you have a fighting chance.”

Andersen Treatment is helping to provide the care, with therapies ranging from medical treatment to peer recovery. Officials at the grove say they want to use the power of community to help support patients even further.

The Grove is currently accepting patients, you can click here to learn more. The facility anticipates seeing its first patient on May 5th.
